Pleatology | Rethinking Processes

The new Issey Miyake store in Aoyama fuses high-tech with handcrafted, the idea behind the store was inspired by the concept of "monozukuri no gemba" roughly translated as 'making things'.

Several engineers from the Internal Pleats Laboratory are live in the space for a few hrs per week to bring the process to life, gone are the days of process secrecy, the approach is now completely different.

The store enables visitors to experience the joy, excitement and anticipation of products being created right in front of them.The process is simple, the product material is inserted between 2 rollers before emerging on the other side just minutes later, perfectly pleated.

This is a spectacle that will now unfold regularly at the flagship store.
